POCSO Committee. Protection of Children from Sexual Offences
Mount Carmel Vidyaniketan is committed to providing a safe, secure, and child-friendly environment for every student. The school strictly follows the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and the guidelines issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Every child has the right to learn in an environment that is free from abuse, harassment, discrimination, intimidation, and exploitation.
The school has constituted a POCSO Committee to create awareness, prevent abuse, address concerns promptly, and ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of every student.
Objectives of the POCSO Committee
- Provide a safe and secure learning environment for every student.
- Create awareness about child protection and personal safety.
- Prevent all forms of child abuse, harassment, bullying, and exploitation.
- Encourage students to report any inappropriate behaviour without fear.
- Ensure confidential and timely handling of complaints.
- Promote respect, dignity, equality, and responsible behaviour among students and staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Receive complaints related to child safety and protection.
- Conduct preliminary enquiries while maintaining confidentiality.
- Provide support and guidance to affected students.
- Coordinate with parents and the appropriate authorities whenever required.
- Conduct awareness programmes and counselling sessions.
- Ensure compliance with the POCSO Act and CBSE Child Protection Guidelines.
Reporting Procedure
- Any student, parent, teacher or staff member may report concerns related to child safety.
- Complaints may be submitted to the Principal or any member of the POCSO Committee
- All complaints will be treated with strict confidentiality.
- The committee will conduct a fair enquiry in accordance with CBSE and POCSO guidelines.
- Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings while ensuring the safety and dignity of the child.

All complaints received by the committee will be handled with complete confidentiality. The identity of the complainant and all related information will be protected in accordance with the provisions of the POCSO Act and applicable CBSE guidelines.
